Hutto City Council Vacancy and Next Steps

HUTTO, December 22, 2025 – The City of Hutto received notification this morning from Council member Brian Thompson that he is resigning his position effective immediately. 

As part of this announcement, the City is outlining the next steps in the process to fill the Place 1 vacancy. Brian Thompson served as Council Member Place 1, which is already scheduled to appear on the ballot for the May 2, 2026 General Election. Because this seat is part of the regular election cycle, a Special Election is not required to fill the vacancy. Per Hutto City Charter Section 3.06, the remaining members of the City Council will appoint a qualified individual to serve out the rest of the term. An item will be placed on the January 8th agenda for Council to consider this appointment.
